W-Series Field Indicators
Western Instruments offers 3 Models of our popular W-FI Field Indicators. Field Indicators (Magnetometers) are designed to aid MPI Inspectors to:
- - Check for Magnetism before testing
- - Check the Polarity of a Field.
- - Check Magnetism after Demagnetizing
- - Check the Direction of the Field
While simply mentioned in ASTM and ASME Specifications, Field Indicators are outline in the ASNT Handbook Nondestructive Testing Handbook, Second Edition: Volume 6, Magnetic Particle Testing (2nd Edition). These mechanical Field Indicators are an economical alternative to Hall Effect Gauss Meters.
Verification and Certification

Pull Test Bar
Western Manufactures two types of Pull Test Bars.
The W-PT is the fastest way to verify the operation and specification compliance of MPI Yokes
The W-PT-DB is made with Artificial Defects for training and demonstration purposes.

The W-PT can be stacked either 4 or 5 high for use with DC Yokes

Pie Gauge (Magnetic Pentrameter)

Pie Gauges are used to measure Magnetic Field Direction, and to a lesser extent to ensure the presence of an adequate magnetic field. Pie Gauges are an excellent tool for Procedure Development, and as an Inspector's Aid to determine defect sensitivity.
Powder Applicators

W-Series Powder Bulbs (applicators) are offered in 3 convenient sizes, for dusting Dry Method Powder during inspection. W-PB's are made from latex rubber, so their suitable for hot or cold climates.
W-PB12. 12 oz (340g)
W-PB4, 4 oz (110g)
Indicator Strips
Foil Magnetic Indicators are available in two general types; Castrol Strips; and Qualitative Quality Indicators. Each type of indicator is available in different sensitivities. Indicator Strips are used to evaluate the Sensitivity of a given Magnetic Field, and field direction to a lessor extent

Centrifuge Tube
Centrifuge Tubes are used to perform a Settling Tests on Wet Method Inspection Media (Visible or Fluorescent). 100ml of a well agitated (thoroughly mixed) bath is poured into the Centrifuge Tube. The bath is allowed to settle (as per specification) for a set amount of time, at which time the volume of iron particles can be measured, using the etched graduation at the bottom of the Tube.

Stripe Cards
Magnetic Strip Cards are a convenient method to analyze the sensitivity of MPI Materials. Three different Stripe Cards are available; Type A (Dry Particle); Type B (Wet Method); and Type 2000 (Wet Method and Particle Concentration.
Ketos Ring
Ketos Rings are outlined in most MPI Specifications, as a tool for the overall evaluation of an MPI System. Provides the operator with a qualitative measure of Defect Sensitivity, Bath (particle) Performance, and Equipment Output
MTU Block
MTU Blocks are used to test the sensitivity of Wet Method MPI Baths. These reference blocks are provided with a reference picture, so an existing or new Bath can be compared to indications from an optimum system. These blocks can be used for Wet Fluorescent or Visible Baths (with White Contrast Paint. MTU Blocks can be re-certified, when necessary, by an authorized agency.
